Suitable for novice dogs & open dogs, aimed at spaniels, but retrievers welcome. Will benefit all handlers, from newcomers to experienced handlers who want a refresh or knowledge on a subject that is overlooked. How many times have you heard the expression 'No idea why they did that' or 'Well they've never done that before' This isn't Voodoo or witchcraft its knowledge and skill every handler should know.........FIELD CRAFT! We will look at the theory behind the following: - Scent, what is it? - Ground or air hunting, what's the difference? - Scent cone, what it is and how a dog will use it in different conditions. - Scenting conditions, this cross over with the scent cone, temperature, humidity, weather, strong winds, no wind, rain, frost etc. - Wind direction, how to read it and how to best hunt depending on where its coming from. - Getting your dog hunting, how to encourage and stimulate to get their nose down. - Tips on how to keep the dog hunting close, put a pattern in the dog, connection with the dog whilst hunting, over handling, too much whistle, building trust etc. You will all get chance to work your dog, practise the tips and be helped with understanding the input and putting the exercises into practice and advised on any aspects of your dog that may need to focus on. Hand out provided for some light bedtime reading and a quick reference guide when training. Grass, light bramble, cover crop, legume mix, ditches, and banks, jumps, pens. £50.00 per person, maximum 6 handlers. Tea, coffee, water, biscuits, and cake included, stop for a break, Q&A's and swap dogs.
