SUGAR BEET WORKSHOP

AM: 0900-1200hrs. Spaniels x6 handlers

PM: 1200-1500hrs. Retrievers x6 handlers

This will be breed specific scenarios.

Ideally steady to shot. Ideal for Novice and Open dogs. Pistol, dummies & launchers will be used.

Happy if a few of you want cold game to bring some.

£50.00 per person. 2nd dog welcome. At our Training Ground in Eye, Peterborough, Cambs, PE6

Also, THE option of 1:2:1 or a group of friends etc. midweek daytime or evenings

Sunday 25/08/24:

0900-1300: Beating/Picking up Workshop (dummies, launchers & cold game). Spaniels & Retrievers.

Explaining the role of the beater and picker-uppers on a traditional walked up shoot day, etiquette, shoot day attire, what to expect, what to take on the day, shoot captain, gamekeeper, stoppers, flags, sticks, noise or no noise, small family/farm shoots to commercial shoots with loaders and double guns, etc. Q&A’s

Moving onto scenarios with spaniels hunting a beat in a ‘straight’ line, flushes simulated and dummies or launcher to mimic fallen game.

Retrievers will be used primarily to retrieve, however, blind cold game will be used to sweep the drive after, and runners sent for with the launchers etc.

Suitable for novice dogs & open dogs, novice handlers who may just about to enter their first season in the field. Ideally dogs will be steady to the flush and have heard gunshot, but not essential.

Grass, bramble, light cover, ditches, and banks.

£50.00 per person, (Max 6 handlers) Tea, coffee, water, biscuits, and cake included, stop for a break and swap dogs.

N.B Happy to accommodate a group of friends, shoots, club, society etc & tailor to your needs.

AV Spaniel Working Test results

​

Congratulations to all the award winners at our inaugural AV Spaniel Working Test on Saturday 1st June, held at our Training Ground in Eye, Peterborough, Cambs. The weather was kind, if a little chilly for June, but it didn’t rain, scenting conditions were great, with a mild breeze. Our judges were Paul Seaman and John Robertson. Again, thank you to all our helpers and all handlers for supporting the event. Results below for all Stakes and both KC and Non-KC classes in the Novice and Open who were awarded separate awards.

Due to increased costs of land rent, business rates, insurance & products, we will be making an increase in lesson prices as of 1st April 2024, a decision we have not taken lightly. We hope to still remain competitive and my clients will continue to support us. In part, you do keep telling me I'm not charging enough!!

​

We will also be taking a 50% deposit to secure any booking via BACS due to the amount of less than 24 hour notice cancellations we have had in the past six months, then had insufficient time to fill the space from our reserve list. Our T&C's have been amended to reflect this.

​

Lesson Price from 01/04/24:

1:2:1 - £30

Group - 1 hour - £20. Still a maximum of 6x handlers.

Group - 1.5 hours - £25. Still a maximum of 6x handlers.

Pleased to announce FTAW Spiriteddawn Acer of Racomitrium gave birth to 10 healthy liver and white, heavily marked puppies last night. 6 girls, 4 boys. Mum and pups doing well!

Due to the size of the litter we may have a couple of pups looking for homes, ready to leave 10th May 2024.

Mid-week Puppy, Novice and Intermediate Gundog classes (spaniels and retrievers) starting April 3rd 2024, 1800-1900hrs. 6x 1 hour lessons, two weeks apart. Booking and 50% deposit required to secure a place. Eye, Peterborough, PE6.

AV Spaniel Working Test

 Saturday 1st June 2024

Racomitrium Gundogs are pleased to announce our inaugural AV Spaniel Working Tests at our Training Ground in Eye, Peterborough, Cambs, PE6.

​

* Puppy (aged under 18 months on the day of the test) Non KC reg welcome.

* Young Handler (aged 16 and under on the day of the test) Non KC reg welcome.

* Novice Test Non KC reg welcome (separate awards)

* Open Test Non KC reg welcome (separate awards)

​

The aim of the day is to encourage our next generation of young handlers, newcomers, ladies, gentlemen and those that are a little nervous or apprehensive about taking the plunge into the world of competitive Gundog tests and trials.

It will be a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with plenty of help and encouragement.

 

The opportunity to speak with two highly respected and successful triallers & judges in Paul Seaman (Pixifen Spaniels) and John Robertson (Hawcroft Gundogs)

For those new to the sport, they have both competed at the highest levels including the prestigious KC Cocker Spaniel Championships and have had numerous winners between them.

​

That said I would like to encourage seasoned handlers and triallers who can showcase their dogs to a new audience. Plus it's the last chance to run under a judge in competition prior to the KC Working Tests the following weekend.

​

To be run along the same lines as a club test, although illuminating faults will not affect completing your 1st run or inclusion in your 2nd run.

​

Entries limited to 16 dogs per stake.

Judges: Paul Seaman B Panel and John Robertson NP.

​

Trophy for winner in each class, Rosettes & Certificates for 2nd, 3rd, 4th & Certificates for CoM.
